Many of QMI’s customers employ the “layers of security” strategy. Retailers have alarm systems, plus have interior mounted security shutters to discourage entry in the first place, and then also utilize the free-standing ProductSafe cabinets.  The ProductSafe line includes many case sizes and colors, plus roll top designs and numerous slat options.  The cases integrate security shutters available in solid shutters design, perforated, or with clear polycarbonate slat inserts to display the merchandise inside. Many retailers present their cigarettes near the checkout counter and discourage smash and grab theft of these items with the cases. 

Security layering is designed to increase the amount of time a burglar has to steal. A thief wants to get in and out in two minutes or less. Either the aluminum shutters at the storefront or the ProductSafe case alone would take much more than two minutes, so the combination or layering of security deters the burglary attempts. Often, the storefront security shutter is mounted on the inside of the glass. This may seem contrary to logic, but if the shutter was mounted on the exterior, they could spend unlimited time attempting to bypass the gate. With the inside mount, once the burglar breaks the glass or the door, the alarm goes off. Then, the burglar must bypass the security shutter very quickly, which cannot be done. For this reason, QMI protected retailers rarely have break in attempts. One national retailer found that after protecting 1,000 stores with QMI security shutters and aluminum shutter ProductSafe cases that burglary attempts dropped to nearly zero.

ProductSafe cases are also designed with convenience features and customized for each retailer. Fixed or slide out shelving is available. Pharmacies often use combinations of fixed upper baskets and pull out lower baskets to conveniently sort through customer prescription pickups. Electronics retailers often incorporate peg hooks in the upper portion of the cases for smaller items and fixed or pull out shelves on the bottom for larger boxed inventory. 

One additional security layer is incorporating a solid shutter over the inventory room door, with the ProductSafe cases inside the inventory room. Recently, four burglars were able to bypass a retailer’s security system and spent on hour attacking the inventory room door security shutter and just gave up and left. They left some crow bar and hammer marks on the shutter, but the inventory was saved. QMI uses steel plates as reinforcement washers as the solid shutters are bolted through the door frame, making crow bar access nearly impossible. QMI Security Solutions has extensive experience protecting retailers and has come up with some unique solutions to protect their customer’s valued inventory. Many of these are secrets and cannot be revealed on our website. There are a few extra surprises out there for burglars attempting to steal from a QMI customer.
