Our AL7-E profile is one of our most versatile profiles. The AL7-E can be punched with one of 5 styles for both security and vision. AL7-E rolling shutters have a patented end retention system so that the slats are restricted from being pushed out of the sidetracks. It also rolls up in a more concentric roll, reducing the head room needed for the coil housing.

How the CounterSafe® shutter emerged

In 1989, Qualitas moved into a smaller building in West Chicago, Illinois, and was joined by Jim’s brother Steve Miller. Steve focused on sales, which enabled Jim to develop the structure and administration of the business. While visiting his pharmacist, Steve observed a roll down coiling door used to secure the pharmacy. The QMI security roller shutter was a much better product for the pharmacy application, rather than the ugly rolling overhead garage style door. Steve and Jim packaged a solution to the pharmacy chain which launched CounterSafe® counter shutters, a core business for QMI.

Security rolling shutters by QMI are used by the United States’ four largest pharmacy chains. The largest counter shutter, coming in at 26’ wide and more than 12’ high is used by one national Pharmacy chain in every one of its locations. The counter shutter is mounted to the roof structure and only the curtain is visible dropping through the ceiling. The large shutter accommodates this pharmacy's open design scheme. Several other national pharmacies utilize the counter shutter next to full-length security rolling shutters that may drop to the floor. With a flip of a switch or several turns of a crank, the secured pharmacy is now accessible by customers without any view of the security roller shutters that seconds ago protected valuable narcotics and medicines.

QMI has cycle-tested these security rolling shutters to represent more than 40 years of use. Through continuous improvement processes and engineering, the incidence of warranty work on security rolling shutters is very low.

Counter shutters are often used by OEM manufacturers as they incorporate the QMI rolling shutters into the design of their kiosks, cabinets, and even airplane jetways. The QMI shutter can be found in most every large US airport. If one is stuck with hours to kill late at night in an airport, take a look at the bookshelves, kiosks, and food counters and odds are pretty good you will see security roller shutters with QMI labels. During the day, the shutters disappear into the integrated box housing and no one knows they exist even while reaching into the displays to grab a sandwich, candy, or a book.
